Astana, January 27 - IA. Neftegaz.RU . Kazakhstan has set a historical record for average daily oil production.
This is reported by the situation Analysis Center of the Fuel and Energy Complex under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the operational data of the CAC TEK:
On January 26, 2025, Kazakhstan recorded a historical record of average daily oil production - 278.4 thousand tons;
this is 10.5% more than the same date in 2024 (251.9 thousand tons). t);
the achievement of this result was made possible by:
completion of key stages of the Tengizchevroil (TCO, operator of the Tengiz field) Future Expansion Project,
and commissioning of the 3rd Generation Plant (STP) at the Tengiz field.
TCO announced that it produced its 1st oil under the PBR at the Tengiz oil and gas field on January 24, 2025.
The start of the ZTP meant a gradual increase in production at the Tengiz field in the coming months, which, according to plans, should reach 12 million tons per year.
After all production facilities reach full capacity, it is expected that the total volume of crude oil production will be about 40 million tons per year, which will provide additional profit to Kazakhstan through taxes, royalties and other direct financial payments.
According to Chevron, oil production at the Tengiz field will increase in 2025 by 24.8% compared to the level of 2024, to 34.7 million tons from 27.8 million tons (level of 2024).
Recall that Kazakhstan intends to produce 96.2 million tons of oil in the country by the end of 2025 (against 87.8 million tons in 2024Earlier,
Kazakhstan postponed the terms of compensation for excess oil production under the OPEC+ deal.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the compensation period for over-produced volumes has been extended until the end of June 2026.
Recall that the previous plan to compensate for accumulated excess oil production assumed implementation until September 2025.
What did the PBR-PUD project in Tengiz suggest?
PBR:
construction of a 3rd generation oil treatment plant with a capacity of 12 million tons/year,
construction of 3rd generation crude gas injection facilities with a capacity of 9.4 billion m3/year,
construction of well sites and drilling;
PUD (Wellhead Pressure Management Project):
construction of a new system for collecting well products, pressure boosting facilities, infrastructure and auxiliary facilities in order to maintain the current level of oil production at existing KTL and ZVP plants.
The projects were originally planned to be completed at the end of 2022, however, due to work delays from the schedule, the deadlines were adjusted, and the cost of the projects increased from USD 45.2 billion to USD 46.7 billion.
The Tengiz oil and gas field
was discovered in 1979 in Atyrau region. Kazakhstan, 160 km south-east of Atyrau;
It belongs to the Caspian Oil and Gas Province (NGP);
It is the deepest and largest oil field in the world, with hydrocarbon deposits located at a depth of 3.8-5.4 km.;
hydrocarbon reserves:
recoverable reserves - 750 million - 1.125 billion tons of oil,
projected geological reserves - 3.133 billion tons of oil,
associated petroleum gas (APG) reserves - 1.8 trillion m3;
The operator is a TCO joint venture: Chevron with a 50% stake in the joint venture, ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Ventures Inc (25%), KazMunayGas (20%), LUKOIL International GmbH (5%).
